Step 3: Geocode Options

For Geocoding:

After making your selections in Step 2: Input Options, you are ready to select options that affect the geocoding process and results.

  1. Country
If you have mapped the country field in Step 2, then this field will be disabled and no action is required. If the country has not been mapped, use the drop-down menu to select the country that applies to all of the addresses in your input address record file.
Note: If your file contains addresses from multiple countries, it is recommended to map the country column in step 2 for the right results.
  2. Match Mode
Select the leniency to be used when making a match between your input address records and the reference data. Your selection should be based on the quality of your input data and your desired output. For example, if your input records contain a lot of incomplete information, you may want to select the Relaxed setting.
    OptionDescription
Standard This is the default mode, and generally provides the best balance of accurate geocoding, few false matches, and high performance. This requires a close (not necessarily exact) street name match.
Relaxed This provides less strict matching rules. In general, the Relaxed setting increases your chances of getting a close match but performance (geocoding speed) may not be as good.
Exact Requires a very tight match. This restrictive mode generates the fewest match candidates, which decreases the processing time. When using this setting, ensure that your input address data is very clean - free of misspellings and incomplete addresses.
  3. Multi Matched Address

Select this option to return the list of possible matches when there is more than one possible match for the input address and a single best match cannot be identified.

    OptionDescription
    Accept First Address

This is selected by default, and it returns the first address from the possible matches.

    Accept None

Do not return the ambiguous matches.

  4. Multipass Settings

Multipass settings will be applied to geocoded addresses that failed or didn't matched perfectly. After applying these settings, output will be re-geocoded to produce a more useful result out of those failed or mismatched addresses.

You can multipass for either best performance, increased accuracy, increased match rate, or customize it even further to be re-geocoded for a precision level or match score using singline or a user provided address format with a match mode.

Note that the Increased Accuracy, Increased Match Rate, and Custom options might take a few extra time depending on the input size to show the results as compared to None - Continue Without option.

    OptionDescription
None - Continue Without This is selected by default, and will do a regular Geocoding for best performance.
    Increased Match Rate

This will do a Multi-flow Geocoding with Best Match Rate.

Increased Accuracy This will do a Multi-flow Geocoding with Best Accuracy.
Custom This will allow you to apply a customized setting, as explained below:

Location (Precision Code): Select from Street Level(S), Postal Centroid(Z), Geographic Centroid(G), Admin Level(Z+G), or Any (all of the above).

For more information, see Precision Code.

And/Or: Use And/Or to Geocode with both Precision Level and Match Score, or just one of them.

Match Score: Select a value from 50 or less, 80 or less, or 100 or less. The failed or mismatched addresses will be re-geocoded according to match score value you selected.

For more information on Match Score, see Geocoding Options FAQ.

Use singleline address formation/Use user provided address formation: You can select between the address format you want to provide or the single line address format used by the geocoder.

Match Mode: Select from Standard, Exact, or Relaxed. The Match Modes are explained above in Step 2.

  5. To complete Step 3, click Start Geocoding Job. To return to the Step 2: Input Options page, click Back. To abort this step and return to your MapMarker Dashboard, click Cancel.
Step Result: The job will start and your MapMarker Dashboard launches where you can view and access your Geocoding Results. A pop-up also displays "Your job has been successfully started. We will email you when the job completes.".

    For Reverse Geocoding:

After making your selections in Step 2: Input Options, you are ready to select Distance and Coordinate System
    1. Using the drop-down menu, select the desired Distance either as Meters or Feet and provide a value.
    2. Using the drop-down menu, select the desired EPSG Coordinate System as per the input file Latitude/Longitude values.
    3. Click Start Job.
