Creating a Profile

You need to create a profile to run the data quality analysis rules. A profile can include data set from any of the logical or physical models created using the Modeling feature of Metadata Insights or it can include data from any of the connections configured in Spectrumâ„¢ Technology Platform.

To create a new profile, perform these steps:

  1. In a web browser, go to:

    http://server:port/metadata-insights

    Where server is the server name or IP address of your Spectrumâ„¢ Technology Platform server and port is the HTTP port. By default, the HTTP port is 8080.

  2. Log in using your credentials.
  3. On the Home page, click Profiling.
  4. The Profiles tab shows two alert messages. The first message asks you to create a one-time ProfilerInternalConnection, while the second message needs you to expose ProfilerJobInternal job by clicking the Expose Job button. Click the Click here to create connection... link, which takes you to the Add Data Source page in the Management Console. Follow the instructions to create the ProfilerInternalConnection and Save it.
    Note: Ignore the test failure message if you get one on clicking the Test button.
  5. Click the Expose Job button and refresh the page.
    You can now use the Profiles tab to add a new profile.
  6. Click the Add Profile button .
  7. In the Profile name field, enter a name for this profile.
  8. In the Description field, enter a description for the profile.
  9. In the Select datasource field, click file browser icon .
  10. Choose the type of source you want to profile.
    • To profile a physical or logical model, select Model, choose the model you want to profile, then click OK.
      Tip: If you need to add or modify a model, click Manage model.
    • To profile a data source connection, click Connections, choose the data source you want to profile, then click OK.
      Tip: If you need to add or modify a connection, click Manage connections.
  11. From the list of tables, select tables and columns that you want to include in the profile. To include all the tables and columns, select the check box in the header row. To select specific columns of a given table, click the arrow beside the table name.
  12. In the Sample size per table field, specify the sample size for data analysis. For example, if you specify 10000, the analysis will take into consideration 10000 rows of data in every analysis sample and generate report for it. The maximum sample size is 1,000,000.
  13. In the Profiling rules section, select the rules you want to use to analyze your data. For information about the profiling rules, see Profiling Rules.
  14. In the Notification section, select the option When the data quality analysis is completed send an email to if you want to email the analysis report to users. Specify the e-mail addresses of the users. To add multiple email addresses, click the Add button .
    Note: You need to configure a mail server to be able to send email. For information about configuring a mail server, see the Administration Guide.
  15. Click Save.

The profile is created and listed on the Profiles tab of the Profiling page.
