Moving Named Resources and Folders

Spectrum Spatial™ Manager allows you to move named resources and folders for which you have the appropriate permissions (Delete permissions on the resources or folders you are moving, and Create permission on the destination folder). Moving will update other resources (for which you have Modify permissions) that reference the moved resource to reflect the new location, therefore preserving references between resources and the permissions assigned to the moved resource.

Note: You cannot move named configurations in the repository.

To move named resources or folders in Spectrum Spatial™ Manager:

  1. From the Repository page, choose one of the following methods to move named resources or folders:
    OptionDescription
Drag and drop From the repository tree on the left or the folder details on the right, drag one or more resources or folders to either another location in the tree or to another folder. You can drag and drop items within the tree, within the folder details view, and between them.
    Use the Move button
    1. Select one or more named resources or folders to move by clicking the row or check box for each item.
Tip: Select all resources or folders by clicking the check box in the heading row.
    2. Click the Move button located in the toolbar.
    3. In the Choose destination folder dialog, browse to the new location and click Next.
Note: Overwriting a named resource or folder is not permitted. If other resources or folders in the destination folder have the same names as all of the resources or folders you are moving, Spectrum Spatial™ Manager will warn you and require you to select another destination or cancel the move.

The Move confirmation dialog opens to inform you whether or not moving the resources or folders will break or update other resources that refer to them (or their contents in the case of folders). If applicable, this dialog displays a list of links to the named resources that will be updated to reflect the new location or will be broken. Resources will break if you do not have sufficient permissions to update them to reflect the new path of the moved resource (for example, you have View but not Modify permissions on a named map that points to a named table that you are moving). Click a link to open the associated resource in a new tab, to help you determine whether or not you want to proceed with the move.

Spectrum Spatial™ Manager will also warn you if some resources or folders have the same names as other resources or folders in the destination folder or if you do not have sufficient permissions to move the resources or folders.

Important: If you do not have any permissions on a resource that depends on the one to be moved (that is, one that is hidden because you do not have View permissions), that affected resource cannot be updated and will silently break. The confirmation dialog will not warn you in these cases.
  2. If you selected more than one resource to move, you can choose to move some and not others. Click Remove next to each resource that you decide not to move.
  3. Click Move.
