EGM to GGM Migration

Below are the EGM and respective GGM Preferences:

Geocoding Preferences

EGM Preference GGM Preference Description
Offset Street Offset This specifies the value for the offset. Valid value units are feet and meters. Default value is 7 meters.
Latitude/ Longitude format return coordinates as integer This specifies the value for the format for Latitude/ Longitude values. Valid value units is Integer.
Return coordinates in This specifies the value for the Return coordinates. Valid value are NAD27 and NAD83. NAD83 is equivalent to Global Geocode's default value WGS84.
Note:
You must manually convert the GGM output coordinates to NAD27 if you are using NAD27.
Address point interpolation Use Address Point Interpolation When set to true, enables address point interpolation. Default = false. Supported only in forward geocoding.
Note:
The address point interpolation feature requires you to have a point and segment geocoding dataset installed.
Determine Street Centerline Coordinates Centerline This determines the Street Centerline Coordinates.
Note:
Only when the Centerline checkbox is selected, Street Centerline Coordinates would be returned.
Centerline Offset Centerline Offset Specifies the distance to offset the point from centerline. Default = 0. Supported in forward geocoding only.
Squeeze Corner Offset Specifies the offset distance from the street segments to use in street-level geocoding. Default = 7 Meters.
Centroid Preferences
No Centroids Type of Geocode Type of Geocode is set to Address with no fallbacks turned on.
Return ZIP Code Centroids Type of Geocode Type of Geocode is set to Postal. When an address-level geocode cannot be determined, attempt to return a ZIP Code centroid.
Fallback Centroids Type of Geocode Type of Geocode is set to Address with following fallbacks:
  • Fallback to Street Centroid.
  • ZIP Code centroid: A ZIP Code centroid match returns the center point of an area defined by different types of ZIP Codes.
  • Geographic centroid : When an address-level geocode cannot be determined, attempt to return a centroid of a geographic area. The geocoder returns the most precise geographic centroid that it can based on the input. For example, if the input contains a valid city and state, a city centroid would be returned.
    Note:
    Turn on Fallback to Geographic Centroid in GGM's Geocode tab for this to function.
Allow PBKey fallback/ maximum fallback distance Allow PreciselyID fallback/ Search Distance Allow PreciselyID Fallback is a custom geocoding preference for USA addresses that returns a PreciselyID unique identifier. Once the address contains a PreciselyID. The PreciselyID PBKey Fallback requires that you have licensed and installed Master Location Data (MLD).

The PreciselyID of the nearest MLD point located within the maximum fallback distance provided is returned.

Matching Preferences

EGM Preference GGM Preference Description
Address preference This specifies the address preference. Below are the available options:
  • Prefer Street Address : If a street address is provided in the input address it is used for matching. This is the default preference.
  • Prefer PO Box over Street: If both a street address and a PO Box are provided in the input address, the PO Box is used for matching.
  • Prefer Second line
Perform building search Building Search on Address Line Attempts to obtain a street address when the input address contains a building name with no suite or unit number.

When this preference is disabled, Geocoding is able to match to building names only if there is a unit number in the input.
Perform first letter search Search on First Letter of Street name Specifies whether to look for the correct first letter of a street name if the first letter is missing or incorrect. If selected, the Geocoding searches through the alphabet looking for the correct first letter to complete the street address.
Enable predictive lastline
Search Area Search Area These preferences set the search constraints to use when matching. These can assist in finding a match when the input address contains limited or inaccurate city or ZIP Code information. Below are the available options:
  • City: Searches the specified city.
  • Finance Area: Searches the entire Finance Area for possible streets.
  • Search Radius: Allows the setting of the search radius distance to use when matching.
  • Search Radius - limit to state: Allows for limiting the search to the state.
Firm name search Firm name lookup Determines whether the preferred lookup is to look for a firm name match. Below are the available options:
  • Disabled : Do not use firm name matching. Default.
  • Attempt Firm Match First : Matches to the Place Name line, if a match is not made, then matches to the address line.
  • Attempt Street Match First : Matches to the address line, if a match is not made, then matches to the Place Name line.
Perform delivery validation DPV Specifies if Delivery Point Validation needs to be performed. This option is only available when you are licensed for Delivery Point Validation.
Perform LACS/Link conversion LACS Indicates if the address is marked for LACS/Link conversion. This option is only available when you are licensed for LACS/Link.
Prefer ZIP code over city Prefer ZIP over City Prefers candidates matching the input ZIP Code over matches to input city. Default = disabled.
Search radius distance Search Radius Distance Allows the setting of the search radius distance to use when matching.
Note:
The Distance is in Meters.
Multi-matches/ Candidates
Return Matches Max results to be returned Allows to return matches based on the following:
  • Reject multi-matches : Rejects to return if there are multiple matches and will ignore the all the results.For this option set value to 2.
  • Allow multi-matches: Allows to return if there are multiple matches and will return all results. For this option set value to -1.

    Set it to 1 if you just want the top result, regardless of whether there are further results.
Match Codes
Select Match Mode Match Mode Match modes determine the leniency used to make a match between the input address and the reference data. Select a match mode based on the quality of your input and your desired output. The following match modes are available:
  • Standard: Requires a close match and generates a moderate number of match candidates. Default.
  • Exact: Requires a very tight match. This restrictive mode generates the fewest match candidates, which decreases the processing time. When using this mode, ensure that your input is very clean; free of misspellings and incomplete addresses.
  • Relaxed: Allows a loose match and generates the most match candidates, which increases the processing time and results in more multiple matches. Use this mode if you are not confident that your input is clean; free of misspellings and incomplete addresses.
  • Custom: Allows you to define the matching criteria by setting Custom Mode Must Match Fields

    You must click the + in the center column to display the Override Value popup if your match mode is CASS, Interactive, or if you only wish to alter the USA match mode. Hit the + button to show list of countries, then select United States to view the below custom match modes.

  • Interactive: Available in single-line address matching only. This mode is designed to better handle the specific matching challenges presented by interactive matching. Interactive mode permits for more flexible matching patterns and may, in some cases, return additional possible matches than relaxed match mode.
  • CASS: Imposes additional rules to ensure compliance with the USPS CASS regulations. The purpose of this match mode is to create mailable addresses for USPS mailing discounts. Use this mode to standardize your input for mailing. This mode generates a large number of match candidates.
Return extended match code Specifies if extended match code is returned. GGM always returns the extended match code.
Note:
You may need to truncate the fourth character returned by Global Geocoding if comparing to original match code.
Custom match criteria Custom Mode Must Match Fields This option sets the match criteria for determining match candidates.
  • Address Number: A match must be made to the input address House Number.
  • Street: A match must be made to the input street name, type and directional fields.
  • Postcode: A match must be made to the input address postcode.
  • City/ Town: A match must be made to the input address city.
  • State/ Province: A match must be made to the input address state.
    Note:
    GGM Global supports two additional fields, City/ Town subdivision (Urbanization in Puerto Rico) and State/ Province subdivision (County). Neither are supported for USA geocoding.
Output Data : Output Format
Casing Mixed case output address Specifies the output format casing. The available options are:
  • Upper: Returns candidate information in uppercase. Uncheck the check box for Upper casing.
  • Mixed: Returns candidate information in mixed case rather than uppercase. Check the check box for Mixed casing.
Output formatted on fail Output corrected last line Corrects elements of the output lastline, providing a good ZIP Code or close match on the soundex even if the address would not match or was non-existent.
Output postal code separator Changes the Postal Code field formatting (eg 12345-6789 to 123456789).
Note:
GGM always uses the postal code separator.
Return descriptions in output Turns on Verbose mode which adds Name fields noted in Census and Qualifier groups.
