Using Data Connections

Use Data Connections to define and reuse data connections in any Data Integrity Suite module. Data Connections are managed on the Connections page. In any module, the Connections page may be accessed on the sidebar menu. On the Connections page, you can create new data connections or edit existing data connections. Connections can also be accessed and managed from Resources on the Welcome page.

Create a New Data Connection

You can create a connection to any data source that is supported in Data Integrity Suite. The procedure to create a connection is the same for different connection types. It only differs in settings that define a particular data source.

Edit a Data Connection

The following procedures describe how to find or edit any existing data connection.

Duplicate a Data Connection

You can duplicate an existing data connection to reuse existing connection information for a new connection. After you duplicate a data connection you can edit settings. Provide a new name for the duplicate connection and change any settings that you want to apply to the new connection.

Test a Data Connection

You can test a data connection while you create it to confirm that it works. This is included as a step in the procedures to create or edit a data connection. You can also test any existing data connection to confirm that it works before running jobs or to troubleshoot problems that might occur while using a connection.

Connection tests can fail for various reasons. Messages issued by a test typically identify problems that occur. Common problems may include one of the following:

  • The connection does not have access to the server or database.
  • Network security can block connections to a server or database.
  • Data Integrity Suite is unable to reach the data source host machine.
  • Credentials for a database are not valid or do not provide necessary access permissions.
  • The database or data warehouse is offline.

You can create and save a data connection without testing it. You can also save a connection that fails a connection test. This allows you to configure a connection and use it after you resolve known issues.

Delete a Data Connection

Delete an existing data connect on the Connections page. You can only delete a data connection that is currently not used by any module. You must remove dependent assets before you remove a connection.

The Data Catalog allows you to view assets that are using a connection.
