%%POSTNET

Fourteen characters of information to place in the POSTNET™ barcode in the format FZZZZZSSSSDDCF as follows.

Position Description
F A framing character (usually a !) used at each end of the POSTNET™ barcode.
ZZZZZ The five-digit ZIP Code™.
SSSS The four-digit sector and segment.
DD The two-digit delivery point.
C A one-digit checksum.

If the control file contains a CASS tag group, you can use the %%POSTNET system variable to add the POSTNET™ barcode to your documents. %%POSTNET is typically used as the value of an Add group <ADDPART> tag.

Note: If you use IBM Model 3800 printers in full AFP mode, use %%POSTNET. If you have a 3800 Model 1, use %%3800_POSTNET or (if the Model 3800 is in compatibility mode) %%COMP_POSTNET instead of %%POSTNET.

  • <FIELD> (with field replace, meaning the [action] parameter is set to R)
  • <SIDEPART>
  • <SORTPART>
