Digital Asset Management

Managing digital assets primarily consists of managing their metadata records in the DamMaster repository. The digital asset management tasks are:

View Digital Assets

To view the existing digital assets, open the DamMaster repository in a Repository View.

Search for Digital Assets

To find digital assets, open the DamMaster repository in a Repository View and use the Search, Filters, Hierarchy, and Saved Sets functionalities to find the desired metadata records.

Edit Digital Asset Metadata

The most common reasons to update a digital asset’s metadata are to add keywords to facilitate searches or to change the location of the asset in the DamHierarchy. DamHierarchy is the Hierarchy for DamMaster.

Editing a digital asset’s metadata record is performed in the same manner as editing any other record.

Delete Digital Assets

To delete digital assets:

  1. Delete the digital asset's metadata record from DamMaster. Deleting a digital asset's metadata record does not delete the actual digital asset file. It only deletes the metadata record and any links to the digital asset from other repositories. Once a digital asset's metadata record has been deleted, the digital asset file is now an orphan.
  2. If desired, run the Image Report to generate a list of digital asset orphans.
  3. Clean up digital asset orphans. After you have deleted one or more digital asset metadata records from DamMaster, run a Cleanup job to delete the orphan digital asset files.

Clean Up Digital Asset Orphans

The Cleanup function removes orphans from DAM.

To remove Digital Asset orphans:

  1. Open DamMaster in a Repository View.
  2. Open the More dropdown list and select Cleanup.
  3. A confirmation window will appear and ask if you wish to continue.
  4. Click Yes to remove orphan files. The Cleanup job will run in the background.
  5. To check the status of the Cleanup job, open Job Monitor, select the Cleanup job, then click the Job History button on the Job Monitor’s Activity Bar. A Job History window will open and display the completion status of the job.
  6. Clear the cache.

Regenerate Variants

To regenerate Variants of digital assets:

  1. Open DamMaster in a Repository View.
  2. Select one or more digital asset files, open the More dropdown, and click the Regenerate option.
  3. A Regenerate Variants dialog window will open. Select one or more types of Variants to regenerate, then click the OK button.
  4. A Generate Variants background job will be started. To view the completion status of the job or the job log, open the Job Monitor.
