Upload unlinked data for multiple objects

You can use a Master Detail script to create, update, or upsert records for multiple objects without linking the data.

This is helpful if the master record has not yet been uploaded or if you want to create records for multiple objects by using a single script.

  1. Click the File tab, click Options, and then click Run Settings.
  2. Check the Upload detail record whose master does not exist box.

    Important: If you do not check this box, the master objects will be created, but the detail objects will not be created.

  3. Click the File tab, click New, click Create, and then click Master Detail.
  4. Log in to Salesforce, choose the objects that you want, and then click Next.
  5. Click the Map tab, select the fields that you want, and map the object fields in Excel.

    Any required fields, such as Log Column, are automatically selected.

  6. Click Sheet2, and repeat step 5 for Sheet2 and any additional sheets.
  7. For each sheet in the data file, enter the data that you want to upload.
  8. Enter values for Start Row, End Row, Log Column, and ID Column.
  9. Click Data Validation on each sheet.
  10. Click Run.

    Important: Both the master records and the detail records will be uploaded, but the detail records will not be linked to any other data.

  11. View the Log Column in each sheet to confirm that the data was uploaded.
